“ Alright, goddamn it. If you want to pretend in making a social visit, wel pretent, but this aint not social visit, you hear me. I spent half the summer looking for you, and im gonna take you out of here nice and quiet, or kicking and screaming, dont matter to me” (290)

In the book that I am reading, The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, this quote takes place right near then end. Lilly a fourteen year old girl and Rosaleen their house keeper, have run away together to follow the bees. They live in Sylvan, South Carolina, where the predigest agents blacks is out if hand. Lilly hears the bees coming through the walls at night, and collects them in a glass jar. One day when lilly and Rosaleen go and attempt to cast her vote, they are arrested for affronting the police. Rosaleen is taken away, and lilly is told that Rosaleen will most likely be killed because of her race. The next night when Lilly returns home after being picked up by T-ray, Lillys father, at the police station, she sees that the bees have left the jar, and she believes that she should run away to Tiburon, South carolina. Lilly soon gets there, only to find that Rosaleen is in a hospital because she was beaten so badly by the police. Lilly and Rosaleen meet up with her sisterr August Boatwright and stayeds with her, learning tobee keepp, while making up a false story alone the way. In this moment in the book the story changes to T-ray, and him trying and succeeding to find Lilly. T-ray now comes back into the picture because he had been looking for Lilly, and has now found her. The quote shows the envious side of him, alone with the abusive and careless side.

This quote reflects larger ideas from the book, because they take a look at how T-ray really treats Lilly. This takes a good look at how t-ray really treats Lilly, and how he could care less about her and what she is doing. In the quotes that I have picked out, T-ray shows the brutal said of him by saying “don't matter to me,” explaining how he doesn't care about lilly, and how she feels about the situation. The author shows this in the beginning of the book was, when they talk about how much he cares for his dog, and how much he doesn't care about Lilly. But on the flip side of that, he did want to find her and bring her home, maybe loosing er was the big step to making him realize that he did something wrong by not caring for her. The larger picture of the book, was the different ways to go about abuse. The way lilly handled it was by running away, and although that may seem like it is the best thing to do, you will need to go home at some point and that I exactly what happened. T-rays character is like this because after her mother died I think he feels like he has to take his anger out on someone, and the closest poor sole around has always been there.

This quotes brings up many conflicts that I have experienced through the news and the internet. One thing that his quote reminds me of is the book. A child called it, and how he is abused for his whole childhood, and is still alive to tell the story. This also bring up many stories that I have herd about physical abuse that father have put on there wife's or whole family, in the news. This scared me to think that t-ray could have been doing many bad things to lilly and no one knew other then Rosaleen who couldn't stop this.
